LawY Chat is a cutting-edge tool designed to enhance your legal practice by automating and streamlining various aspects of case and matter management.

Before You Start

To view Matters and use LawY Chat, make sure you have connected your storage service (e.g., OneDrive or Dropbox). For detailed instructions, see OneDrive and Dropbox.


LawY Chat Overview

LawY Chat offers a focused workspace designed to help you interact with LawY AI, review previous discussions, and manage matter-specific chats efficiently.

  • Opening a Matter Chat: When you click on any Matter for the first time, the Chat window automatically opens a new chat focused on the entire matter. This provides a starting point for asking questions or reviewing information related to that matter. Once the chat is open, you can use the + New button to start additional chats about a specific document, folder, or prompt.

  • Start a New Chat: Click + New to begin a new conversation. You can choose to chat about a matter, a document, a folder, or a prompt. Each option tailors your chat to a specific context, helping LawY AI provide more relevant responses. For more information on these options, see Using LawY Chat

  • Ask Questions: Type your question in the chat prompt at the bottom of the screen and click the arrowhead to submit. The generated answer will appear in the main chat area. LawY Chat generates an answer based on the question and relevant references within that Matter

  • Chat History: If the selected matter has been discussed previously, the chat history will appear on the left side of the chat window. You can review earlier conversations or continue from where you left off.

Note: Each chat includes an icon to help you identify its type at a glance. For example, a folder with an M icon for Matter chats, a folder icon for Folder chats, and a document icon for Document chats.

  1. Chat Window Extension and Collapsing: Use the expand/collapse icon in the Chat history panel to adjust your workspace layout, helping you to see more context as needed.

Matter List Overview

The Matter List appears on the left side of the home page. It displays all Matters imported from your connected storage, such as OneDrive or Dropbox. It helps you quickly locate and select matters to review or start a LawY Chat.

To open the Matter List, click the Matter icon on the toggle list next to the LawY logo in the top-left corner of the screen.

  • Select a Matter: Click any Matter to open its associated LawY Chat.

  • Sort Matters: Organize your list by Matter name or Date added, in Ascending or Descending order.

  • Change View: Switch between Condensed View and the default Detailed View to customize how matters are displayed.

Tip: The dropdown also lets you Show hidden matters if needed.

  • Search Matters and Contacts: Use the search bar at the top center of the page to quickly find a specific matter by name or a contact by name.

  • Collapse Matter List: Click the collapsible icon to hide the Matter List for more workspace on the chat window.
