Using CORTO Prompt Library

The CORTO Prompt Library helps you quickly generate legal documents using AI. It provides ready-made templates and legal documents using relevant matter details.

You can draft letters, briefs, contracts and other legal documents efficiently, faster and more accurately instead of starting from scratch.


⚠️ Important: Always review and verify the output from CORTO AI for legal accuracy before using it.

1. Getting started with the prompt library

  1. Select the Matter you want to review

  2. In the top navigation bar, next to the "Chat" Button, click Prompts

  3. The CORTO Prompt Library page will open

2. Searching and filtering prompts

Before generating a document, you can search and filter prompts to quickly find the one that suits you.

  1. Use the search bar at the top of the CORTO Prompt Library page to find related documents you wish to create
    ​

  2. Use the State (Optional) filter to narrow down your results by jurisdiction

  3. Use the Matter Type (Optional) filter to refine results specific to the matter type.
    ​

⚠️ Some matter types may have limited prompts, while others offer a broader range. The CORTO legal content team continually adds new templates to the CORTO Prompt Library

3. Selecting and running a prompt

  1. Browse the list and click on a Prompt to open it
    ​

  2. Click the Filter button to decide the scope of your prompt. You can run a prompt across your Entire Matter, or narrow it to just specific Folders, Documents, or Fact pages.
    ​

  3. By default, prompts run across the Entire Matter. This includes all documents stored in the matter folder
    ​

  4. Narrow your focus by selecting one or more folders from the matter. Great for prompts that only need specific categories of documents - like "Discovery" or "Contracts".
    ​

  5. Target specific documents within the matter. Choose one or more to make your prompt highly focused and avoid pulling unnecessary material
    ​

  6. Select one or more Fact Pages for the prompt to focus on. This is especially useful when you want AI to focus on specific facts in your documents.
    ​

  7. Once you have set your filters, click Run Prompt. CORTO applies your chosen filter.
    ​

4. Download a prompt

Before running a Prompt, you can Download it as a Microsoft Word document. This allows you to preview the prompt setup outside of CORTO and see the structure and instructions

  1. CORTO AI for Word Add-In: If you open the downloaded prompt in Word and use the CORTO AI add-in, the AI-generated output will appear in the add-in panel on the right side. This allows you to view both the prompt setup (in the document) and the AI response (in the add-in) within Word

5. View available models

  1. After running your Prompt, click the down arrow next to the Reload button to see all available AI models.

    1. CORTO automatically picks the best model for your selected Prompt but you are always free to change it.
      ​

  2. Choose the AI model that best fits your needs.

  3. By default, CORTO uses LPR-CA-V2, our fastest and most accurate model for general prompts.

  4. Alternative models are available if you prefer different performance, e.g., LPR-CA for general use or LPR-LA for complex, multi-section documents.

6. Review and Edit Your Prompt

  1. Once the process is complete, your draft document will appear. This is where you’ll see both the inserted details and any placeholders left for missing information.

  2. Placeholders: If any information from your Matter is missing, the AI-generated output will leave placeholders (e.g., [Client Name] or [Date of Birth]). Review these carefully and complete them manually as needed

    Example placeholders for Justin Clara and Linda Clara are shown below:

  3. Edit a Section: Hover a specific block of text and click the Canvas icon next to any section in your draft. This opens options to refine or change just that part of the text.

  4. Ask CORTO AI to Update: Click Ask CORTO AI to update the highlighted section. You can adjust language or add details without rerunning the full prompt.

  5. Options are also available to Regenerate or Delete the section without affecting the rest of the draft

  6. Apply Changes: Make the necessary change and click the purple arrowhead to proceed

  7. Review Your Update: CORTO AI instantly rewrites the section with your requested changes, while leaving the rest of your draft untouched

  8. Copy Your Draft: Once you are happy with the draft, click the Copy button. You can then paste it directly into Word, email, or any other document you are working on
